The Hörnli ridge is the most frequented route up to the Matterhorn. On sunny days in summer up to 100 people take on the steep ascent. Because of the big run the danger of falling rocks and accidents increases. Many mountaineers are also unexperienced and poorly equiped.
An ascent over the Hörnli ridge starts early in the morning at the Hörnli hut. The long ascent to the summit takes about 4 to 5 hours, the descent lasts just as long as the ascent. More information about the ascent of the Matterhorn is available at www.matterhornascent.ch.
